Coined by a student, "ghost hours" refer to unpaid hours spent on work to achieve a desired endpoint.

The more you want to achieve the desired endpoint, the more unbudgeted hours you put into it. Having the luxury of not thinking about money helps to concentrate on the endpoint and allows for a long delay, yet it is not frequent. Do not expect to be paid for everything you do.
